Americans do not trust the news, for good reason, as main stream media has demonstrated repeatedly that it is biased and beholden to political parties, special interests (including corporate ownership) and pet social engineering projects.
Per Gallup in September of 2016, while public trust in the media has never risen above 50% since 2007, it has now reached an all time low.
Americans’ trust and confidence in the mass media “to report the news fully, accurately and fairly” has dropped to its lowest level in Gallup polling history, with (only) 32% saying they have a great deal or fair amount of trust in the media. This is down eight percentage points from last year.
Countless leaked emails and hot mic moments have revealed that the media’s bias rises to a disdain for the truth, and the original intent of the press to objectively investigate and report the news has been all but adandoned.
While employed by CNN, Donna Brazile fed the Hillary Clinton campaign debate questions to help her defeat Bernie Sanders. Brazile was eventually fired for it, yet refused to apologize for her unethical behavior. She was subsequently appointed interim chairman of the DNC, presumably for her loyalty to Hillary.
Mark Leibovich of the New York Times was caught asking the Hillary Clinton campaign for quote approval, in direct violation of the Times’ policy. Leibovich did not receive a reprimand for his violation of company rules, and like the others remains unapologetic.
Glenn Thrush of Politico openly admitted in an email to John Podesta of the Clinton campaign that he had become nothing more than a hack, requesting approval of his writing, and then pleading, “Please don’t share or tell anyone I did this. Tell me if I f****d up anything.” Thrush vehemently refused to apologize for his lack of journalistic integrity, and Politico took no public action against him.
Moving beyond mere bias and unethical practices, the newest hot topic since the US presidential election concluded is the publication of blatantly FAKE NEWS, ironic considering the media has in fact been propagating it for years, dressing up editorials as objective news and devolving into entertainment “journalism” … and it’s yet another reason the public distrusts their reporting. Even Facebook is entering the fray, vowing to fight “fake news” by creating alerts on “disputed stories” and then amusingly having the same media that colluded with political and corporate interests act as the truth police and fact checkers. How droll.
Does the national media honestly think the public will have any faith in their fact checking being unbiased, honest and objective? Probably not, but they will try to shape the narrative any way they can.
68% of the public doesn’t trust the main stream media for news or fact checking, and they don’t have to. There’s a new outfit fact checking the politicians and the reporters, whether they are alt-right, alt-left, anywhere inbetween, or even claim to be unbiased.
We’re called FACTCHECKS.NET.
We will be reviewing a few national and international stories each week, as well as speeches and policies presented by republicans, democrats, conservatives, liberals, libertarians & independents.
If you come across an especially egregious news story or speech, feel free to submit it for consideration at email@example.com.
Welcome to the Truth.
